Recycling

Did you know that over the past five years, #Algonquin residents have diverted nearly 20,000 tons of recyclable materials from landfills? This is due largely in part to the Village’s free #recycling program that is offered to residents in cooperation with Groot.

Residents may also utilize The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County styrofoam collection drop-off site at our Public Works facility, located at 110 Meyer Drive.

Be sure to keep doing your part by using some of these tips!

Info from Algonquin Police Department

Although the Algonquin Police Department has not recently received reports of “Ruse” Burglaries, we always like to keep our citizens informed as to crimes that have potential to be a problem. In the spirit of educating our citizens, the following is a description of a “Ruse” Burglary:

A 'ruse burglary' is a burglary where the offenders use distraction techniques to lure homeowners outside of their residence. After the homeowner is outside and distracted, other individuals (criminals) enter the home, typically targeting cash, jewelry, or other items of value. Burglars will target senior citizens or any person they feel may be more vulnerable or susceptible to the “story” they provide which is often the burglar impersonating a utility employee or village employee (ie., Com-Ed, Nicor, or water billing), or a handyman claiming to need entry to the home for work purposes.

If you should ever find yourself in a similar situation and are unsure of the validity of the person, please feel free to call and have their identification verified by an officer. Any real employee should understand this request.

If you are suspicious and/or concerned for your safety do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.
