Passing of Village President Schmitt

I respect and appreciate John’s commitment to public service and the many positive contributions to the Village of Algonquin and surrounding community. My condolences to his family and friends.

From the Village’s website: “It is with profound sadness that we share with you the sudden passing of Village President John C. Schmitt.

President Schmitt was first elected to serve as Village Trustee on the #Algonquin Village Board in 1993. He was appointed Village President in 2002 and was elected to his first full term in 2005; he has remained in this position ever since.

President Schmitt’s love and passion for Algonquin was undeniable. Our deepest condolences to his wife Cheryl, his children and grandchildren, his extended family, his many friends, as well as the community that he loved serving.”  http://ow.ly/g6Xg50AImof

Old Town Algonquin

Downtown Algonquin Construction Update (from Public Works):

Last week, crews completed pavement restoration at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Main Street and have reopened the intersection.

Crews will complete the remaining water main work under Algonquin Road at the intersections of Main and Harrison streets once IDOT shifts traffic from the north to the south side of Algonquin Road for their bridge construction project.

The team also continued installing the sanitary sewer along the 400 block of La Fox River Drive.

Next week, crews will continue installing the sewer along La Fox River Drive. Residents in the immediate construction area should note that access to their driveways may be limited during the day. A member of the construction team will notify residents of driveway access restrictions in advance, either in person or with a construction notice door hanger. Additionally, residents along the east side of La Fox River Drive should know that as the sanitary sewer installation progresses past their home, residents could see a disruption of water services. If your water services will be impacted, a member of the construction team will provide 48-hour advanced notice of the disruption, either in person or with a construction notice door hanger.

Downtown Algonquin Construction Update (from Public Works)

Last week, crews finished the installation of the new water main casing and poured the concrete base for the roadway at the south half of the intersection of Algonquin Road and Main Street. The construction team also completed installing the new sanitary sewer along La Fox River Drive through the 600 block. Crews anticipate completing the sanitary sewer work past the Prairie Trail today. In order to provide safe access during this work, flaggers will be on-site to direct pedestrians and bicyclists around construction.

On Monday, June 22, the contractor will place the final asphalt patch for the work at the Algonquin Road and Main Street intersection. The team plans on reopening the road by the end of the day on Tuesday, June 23. We appreciate everyone's patience during this process as we coordinated our schedule with the IDOT bridge construction project.

Next week, crews will continue installing the sewer along the 400 block of La Fox River Drive; flaggers will be present in this area to safely direct pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Residents in the immediate construction area should note that access to their driveways may be limited during the day. A member of the construction team will notify residents of driveway access restrictions in advance, either in person or with a construction notice door hanger. This week, progress will resume work on the pedestrian bridge. With warmer temperatures and drier conditions, the construction crew will be able to place the concrete for the bridge abutments. Once the abutments (supports walls) are complete, the new prefabricated bridge, which was constructed offsite, can be delivered and installed.

Please note: There are free, public parking lots near the trail (marked on the detour map below). Please park in these lots and not in the construction zone. Also, as an important reminder, during COVID-19 we ask that trail users not stop and congregate on the trail.
